Taxis, bus stops, street parking
Add Taxi Whats Pdc to your WhatsApp contacts +52 984 197 0814 and send them a text with your location, time of trip, number of passengers and destination to book a taxi.
Download the InDrive app, sort of a local Uber for taxis
“Collectivos" are minivans that run around town - you need to know your destination and find it painted on the windshield - There is a stop on Ave 30 between calle 28 and 30 - look for the sign, flag the bus you need - 10 pesos - let the driver know when you need to get down. More details on the process here.
If you drive your own car, all parking spots that are marked with paint are pay parking. You can pay at the kiosks, or you can download the MueveCiudad app to pay remotely.
Hair salons
Close to Mega Soriana are a few barber shops to choose from (Constituyentes between Ave 30 and 35).
Pharmacies and health
Closest pharmacy on Ave 30 and Calle 34. Farmacia Similares or Farmacia del Ahorro. Farmacia del Ahorro has a doctor on staff that you can go see as a walk in for any kind of issue - you register in the main store, and see the doctor at the side door of the store on Ave 30.
In case of joint issues, knee, shoulder - Arthros Clinic is right around the corner. Surgeon does injections (knee, shoulder) for pain, as well as orders imaging, MRI, etc. all the way to surgery (in Cancun) and physical therapy. Dr Azael Calderon.
For chiropractor/physio therapist, contact Omar Torres via WhatsApp +52 9841134468. They’re located here, very close, in what seems to be an apartment. By appointment only.
Dental services we’ve been using Coral Dental Center, mostly for cleanings
For family doctor, we’ve used Dr Francisco Aguirre at MD Playa - a bit farther out, but a very helpful doctor, speaking fluent English, very thorough in his explanations…
Groceries
Oxxo across Ave 30, as well as a few convenience stores along Ave 30 have basic drinks and snacks; in a bind, Oxxo has milk and eggs as well.
DAC on the south side of Ave 30, between Constituyentes and C. 20 has fresh produce, eggs, ham, cheese, local products, international products, spices…
A little further but still walking distance, supermarkets where you can find almost everything:
Super Aki and small Soriana that generally have decent fruits and vegetables
Mega Soriana that also has a lot of household items in addition to the groceries
Chedraui Select, a little more expensive, geared more towards tourists and expats
More specialized stores
Italian imports store Mib has some good gorgonzola and other Italian products.
Fish market Pescaderia Oceano - you can buy fresh fish and other seafood, and have them cook it for you on the spot! Or take it home and cook it there.
Cremeria (cheese store) in the mini Soriana plaza: local cheese like queso fresco, Oaxaca, etc.
Chicharroneria (fried pork skin/pork belly): go there mid morning to get your fresh chicharron, but don’t wait until too late in the day, they run out! If you walk around CTM you can also find fresh tortillas, some limon and enjoy some nice tacos back home - don’t forget the ingredients to make a fresh salsa!
ATMs
We use the small Banorte ATM on Ave 30, b/w C. 32 and C. 34 to withdraw pesos (south side of the street, close to a clothing store that sells bathing suits/lingerie).
You can withdraw up to 9000 pesos in one transaction
the ATM charges you a relatively low fee (46 pesos); then your bank may be charging you a few dollars (our bank charges USD 5.00 per transaction, so better get a large withdrawal every time)
Before getting your money, make sure you press the button “declinar conversion”, otherwise they give you a very unfavorable exchange rate.
In case that ATM is out of service, we make the trek or drive to Santander on the highway and Calle 34
